Three Cheers For Steve
Here’s to thinking different, Here’s to comebacks, Here’s to changing the world. Thanks, Steve. We’ll miss you.
PC Style Activities →
The use of the mobile OS would be “in conflict” with Microsoft’s notion of having the full speed of a computer in any design, including truly mobile tablets. He insisted that users would want to do PC-style activities on a tablet and saw Windows 8′s networking and printing support as being important. I’m having trouble understanding what these “PC-style activities” are that I’m apparently not able to do on my iPad. Spreadsheets? Getting into an Access database? Maybe it’s printing…I … Continue reading
The Email Charter →
There are some interesting points to be taken from this selection of email “rules.” The point about clearing out all information that isn’t relevant to your reply has lots of benefits. With the addition of conversation grouping in Lion Mail and Outlook/Exchange 2010 mean that there aren’t many compelling reasons left to leave the full conversation intact from a practical perspective. The rules suggest adding tags of sort for [info], [action], etc. I think even more important is to preface … Continue reading
Star Wars: Revisited →
Star Wars Revisited is a fan edit project by a man called Adywan. It started around 2004, when Ady found himself displeased with what the Special Editions of Star Wars had become. He started color-correcting the DVD version, but as he was doing so, he found that there were many things he could figure out how to do to make what he felt the Special Editions should have been. He worked on A New Hope for two years before releasing … Continue reading
Dork Shelf Reviews Transformers 3 →
Sounds great. The’ve spent millions of dollars on this franchise and they can’t find a writer who can do anything but make George Lucas look like Shakespeare by comparison. This movie is stupid. Absolutely 1,010% brainless with not a single thing that makes a lick of sense even in a fantasy realm. The plot is so nonsensical and illogical that it’s almost a work of art.
DefCon Kids →
I have mixed feelings about this. One one hand, I think that anything that encourages kids to start tinkering with technology is a great thing. In the age of perpetual network connections and devices like the iPhone and iPad that don’t really lend themselves to taking the system apart to find out how it works I can foresee a dumbing down of people using computers. On the other, DEFCON is just about the least kid-friendly place imaginable…and I like it … Continue reading
Running a Newspaper with WordPress →
I wish more papers would figure out that their current websites are a hindrance to readers. I”m looking at you, KC Star. WordPress drives both our website and our print edition — you can’t put an article into the print edition of the paper unless it’s been put into WordPress
Dropbox CEO Apologizes for Breach →
Drew Houston does the only thing that he really can at this point and personally apologizes to the few people that were affected by last weekend’s gaping security hole in Dropbox. I cannot express how deeply sorry I am. Dropbox is my life, and I know that we are only as good as the trust we have built with our customers. This should not have happened, and I am hopeful that you will give us the chance to make this … Continue reading
Rebuttal: LulzSec Ups The Ante →
Excellent counter point to many of the false analogies that have been passed around over the past few weeks.
